Welcome to the Warrior Nation, home of the Lawrence Academy Warriors!
Interscholastic athletics has a long and respected tradition at Lawrence Academy. Throughout the school’s 50-year history, our students have proven they can compete on the playing field just as well as they do in the classroom. Since 1968 our students have won 57 conference championships and 48 conference tournament championships at the local level. And, at the state level our students have secured 9 NCISAA State Championships and 7 NCISAA State Runners Up titles.
Athletics are an integral part of the comprehensive education provided at Lawrence Academy. The independent school environment found at Lawrence provides opportunities in athletics for all of our students, and we are committed to maintaining that rich tradition. Through team and individual sports, students develop a respect for daily exercise, competition, team fellowship, and the rewards of good sportsmanship. Our faculty and coaches work daily to promote an understanding of and a desire within our students for health, fitness, and competition.
All students from Middle School through High School are given the opportunity to participate in athletics, and they are coached to develop individual and team skills that are appropriate for their age, size, and skill level. Playing time is based on each student’s commitment to learning the individual and team skills, their commitment to practice time, and their work ethic and attitude. Player development through practice and game participation is the key goal of all Lawrence Academy Middle School and Junior Varsity teams.
Lawrence Academy currently sponsors 19 athletic teams in five girls’ sports, five boys’ sports, and two co-ed sports. Approximately 95% of our students in grades 7 – 12 participate in at least one sport.
At the local level the Warriors compete in the Tarheel Independent Conference (TIC) and at the state level Lawrence Academy is a 1A member of the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association (NCISAA). During the regular season Lawrence teams compete against other independent schools, public schools, and charter schools.
Prospective Warriors
We appreciate your interest in Lawrence Academy. At Lawrence we have high expectations for all of our academic and athletic programs. In fact, we have a 100% college acceptance rate for our high school seniors and since 1968 over 40 of our graduates have moved on to participate in athletics at the college or university level.
As a member of the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association (NCISAA), Lawrence Academy does not recruit athletes to play sports at our school. NCISAA rules state: “Coaches, teachers, administrators, other school employees or persons known to be associated with the school’s athletic booster club may not initiate contact with a student-athlete to encourage him or her to attend the school. Once a student has made initial contact with the school’s admissions office, then coaches or other representatives of the school may approach the student about the school’s programs.”
Therefore, if you have interest in the Warrior Nation, we invite you to contact our Admissions Office. Once you have taken that step, we’ll be in touch.
