Family Service Hours

Each year from June 1 - May 31 all LA families are required to complete a total of 20 Family Service Hours.

We know that we have families here with certain talents and professions (medical, plumbing, electrical, computer, carpentry, gardening, small machinery, etc.). We can use your help on various projects and could use your talents if you let us know if you are interested. All of our parents and families have something to offer and we appreciate your time and support for LA!

Purpose of Service Hours
  • Increase pride in Lawrence Academy by taking ownership in our school.
  • Increase family and student involvement and awareness
  • Build a strong sense of community
Guidelines For Service Hours
  • Each Lawrence Academy family is responsible for completing 20 service hours each school year.
  • Service hours can be earned by students, parents, grandparents and extended family.
  • Service hours may be satisfied at $20.00 per hour.
    • Service hours must be completed by May 31
    • Remaining balance of hours as of May 31 will be assessed at the hourly rate of $20.00
    • All service hours for seniors must be completed or paid in full to participate in graduation
    • Once all service hours are completed and/or paid for, final report cards will be released
  • For every hour worked, you will receive one service hour
  • Donations
    • Breakfast, lunch, baked good donations - For each event you provide a food donation you will receive one service hour. (Fall Festival, Teacher Appreciation, etc.)
    • Donating Items - For every $20.00 of items donated to the school you will receive one service hour. (Donations of books, supplies to classrooms or special are teachers, athletic equipment, etc.) Please provide a receipt of expenses to the Business Office.
    • Field Trip Chaperone - For day field trips you can receive two hours of service. For overnight trips this time will be calculated by the Head of School.
Recording Service Hours
  • Each family is responsible for recording their service hours using FACTS website. You will enter through the Family Portal.
  • Log into your Family Portal In FACTS and click on Family Home. On the screen you will add hours using the + button on the far right and complete the drop down menu.

 

Opportunities for Service Hours -  Examples
  • PTO - help plan/volunteer for Fall Festival, teacher appreciation, etc.
  • Booster Club - attend meetings, help plan/volunteer for fundraisers, volunteer for gate and/or concessions duty above and beyond parent assignments, keep clock and/or books for teams, etc.
  • Field Maintenance - assist with field prep and care, etc.
  • Help plan/attend class parties, field trips, grade parents, etc.
  • Help set up/clean up for dances, performances and graduation, etc.
  • Help plan/volunteer with fundraisers, i.e. Gathering on the Green/Drive for the Green, etc.
  • Buildings and Grounds - painting, maintaining flower beds, trimming shrubs, moving furniture, electrical, construction, etc.

 

Chaperoning Field Trips — Maximum for one day is 2 hours
