Fifth grade students are working hard to develop skills such as responsibility and self-discipline in order to become great students and sound citizens in their adult lives. Class trips to COA in Elizabeth City to see live performances for familiar literary works, visits to local historical sites to see first-hand how our ancestors lived, and a day at a tree farm to gain knowledge not only of how different trees grow, but an understanding of the important role North Carolina tree farms play in the production of goods and the replanting processes that actually add to the number of trees here in NC, enhance the Language Arts, US History, and Science curriculum. By displaying posters, models, and other 3-D projects that the students have made give them the opportunity to share what they have learned with parents, visitors, and other students in school. They end the year with a day at the beach, a local pool, or at a backyard picnic.
