The Middle School technology curriculum is designed to reinforce that of previous grades. Students in grades 7 & 8 take computers as a part of their Enrichment rotation and the classes are 12 weeks in duration. The skills previously gained in word processing and spreadsheet will be expanded. Students will be expected to utilize editing skills in word processing, multimedia presentations, and spreadsheet design. Email is introduced as a means of communication with the instructor. Exposure to networking will also be introduced in this course.
The computers class is a project driven class. After instruction or review of an Office program, students will create projects which determine their grade in the class. In 7th grade, the students are introduced to the Office 2007 suite and begin an in-depth study of Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint. Projects are required of each student after certain points in each program to check for understanding and mastery.
In 8th Grade, the students briefly review Word and PowerPoint and then begin studying Microsoft Excel where they will begin to delve into more complex areas of Excel. Projects are also given to check for understanding and mastery.
